Chief Hector Lake

Chief Hector Lake

This prime Rainbow Trout Lake is located in the Bow Valley just 29km from Canmore. Chief Hector Lake is stocked annually (12 to 14 inches) with the average Rainbow catch sizes of 4 to 6lbs, and reaching up into the high teens. Early in the day you can see the fish cruising the front shoreline of the lake in front of the lodge, and there has even been reports of some fisherman catching Brook Trout as well.

Chief Hector Lake is privately owned and managed by the Nakoda Lodge Resort and requires all visitors to purchase a day license. Special regulations do apply as well, no motors, no electronics, no bait, catch and release only and single barbless hooks only. There is a boat launch for you to drop your drift boat or personal watercraft. Canoe and kayak rentals are also available through the lodge. You can also book a half day or full day guided trip on Chief Hector Lake through Mountain Fly Fishers, who has been guiding the bow valley area for over 25 years.

If your looking for a quiet place to beat the crowds and enjoy some serenity and top-notch fishing, Chief Hector Lake is a good place to be. You can even make a weekend of it and stay at Nakoda Lodge or enjoy their Sunday Brunch and then hit the water. You can't beat the Canadian Rockies.
